Journey to the Big Apple - The Traditional Reader

I would admit that this pic is one of those where in I capture the shot just because I purely like it and then think of a caption which can justify the pic with a thought

I normally try not to do that … but in this case I am not ashamed of doing it :D

Explaining the caption … I was thinking of a caption which could articulate my thoughts after analyzing the pic …. Till the very last moment I had the caption ‘The Traditional’ which I justify as I am explaining the dress of the guy …

Then decided with this Caption ‘The Traditional Reader’ now it points to 2 things which seems to me as a traditional thing … one is the dress, particularly the hat and other is the reading from a magazine/newspaper because I think with this electronic age reading magazine/newspaper has also fallen into the category of maintaining the tradition

Journey to the Big Apple - WTC: Beauty In Blue

The subject is of-course gorgeous ... But The buildings on the sides is giving nice contrast to the pic which for me is fascinating ...

Journey ~ CTQ - Killer birds Part 1

First of all, ‘Journey ~ CTQ’ means ‘Journey ~ Completing Texas Quadrilateral’. This is the name I gave to the 3 day road trip I had with friends from 30-AUG-2014 to 1-SEP-2014.

Visited USS Lexington at Corpus Christi, Texas. My first visit to a war ship. Quite a good experience it was.

Saw some great fighter jets on the deck.

Wanted to shoot these planes as if they are completely prepared and about to attack. Wanted to show the power and so shot with this angle.

Equipment : Canon 1100D | Canon 10-18 mm lens

Journey ~ CTQ -- In person with the war power : Part 1

First of all, ‘Journey ~ CTQ’ means ‘Journey ~ Completing Texas Quadrilateral’. This is the name I gave to the 3 day road trip I had with friends from 30-AUG-2014 to 1-SEP-2014.

This is the first pic of the series ‘Journey ~ CTQ’ and with this I now have 4 active series to publish pics.

The other 3 are
  1. Journey to the Big Apple – My trip to New York, Watkins Glen state park, and Niagara. Click on the name of the series to see the related posts.
  2. On Streets of Ahmedabad – An afternoon spent in the ‘lala Darwaja’ area of Ahmedabad. Click on the name of the series to see the related posts.
  3. The Goa Chapter – My first and till now the only trip to Goa. Click on the name of the series to see the related posts.

Man I have a lot of work to post :P

Talking about this pic, I bought a canon 10-18 mm wide angle lens just before this trip and this shot is one of the picture I took from that lens. Loved the lens like anything. The wide angled lens always gives you proper drama for the pic.

The thing I like about this pic are the far extending clouds.

By the way the pic was taken just outside USS Lexington war ship at Corpus Christi, Texas.

Corpus Christi was the first place we visited in the Journey CTQ :)

EXIF details : f/5 |  1/800 sec | ISO-200 | focal length 11 mm | aperture 4.5 | center weighted average metering |
Major Editing : Using lightroom | lowered the highlights to enhance the clouds | removed some spots which are due to dust in my camera | adjusted blacks, whites and shadows |

Journey to the Big Apple - Watkins Glen State Park

This would be my first pic of the series 'Journey to the Big Apple', my trip to New York, Watkins Glen State Park and Niagara.

I am not into landscape or nature photography, but this place was so good that not capturing it seem to be an insult of the atmosphere…

First pic is with high shutter speed and the rest are long exposure shots … The long exposure shot is hand held, didn't have a tripod …

On streets of Ahmedabad - The Hard Life

This pic comes under the series “On streets of Ahmedabad” … A Experience I had while spending a day capturing streets of Ahmedabad.

I remember the interesting incident I faced just before I captured this pic. I am born and brought up in Gujarat and my college was 80 kilometers from Ahmedabad. So I have visited the city many times and have even lived there for 6 months. But this time when I was roaming with my camera, trying to capture the life I have been seeing since many years, I was approached by local street vendors demanding not to take pictures here and also asked me to delete all the pics I have taken.

I was not offended by this, but was rather amused. How certain attributes you carry can change people’s point of view for you. I have visited that very place hundreds of time and every time I have communicated with the local vendors with ease. But this time the camera and my decision to record the life I have lived here made the difference.

Talking about the pic, I am sorry that the heel is not in focus in the pics. I was kind of overwhelmed by the incident so I guess was pre-occupied. This is not an excuse but just an explanation :) . I had to reduce the size as the original pic was exceeding the defined limit. I am not sure whether I can paste the facebook link here. Will paste flickr link if I upload the pic there :)

Please do let me know what does these pics miss. praise it or reject it, but express your feelings using comments :)

Journey to the Big Apple - Only If I could Touch Music…

This particular pic reminds me why I took photography as a hobby…

Photography and writing both as a hobby serves a singular purpose for me … To record what I think …

I always wanted to capture what I think with the photos I click … I never worked hard to take a technically good pic, which I accept is a big flaw in me … but I feel I can always alter light, sharpness and contrast in editing but to capture the thought after seeing a subject is more important …

Talking about this pic … I was on a Trip to New York … I have taken many pics of New York but this one is something I like more … and ironically this pic has nothing to do with New York … it was just a wind chime outside the window of my friend’s house and its shadow appeared on the window blinds …

That shadow for me was the physical existence of music … and addition to this thought was the idea of someone trying to touch the shadow just to satisfy his desire to touch something so soothing and powerful as music …

I feel that the Caption could have been better but I already delayed this pic by 4 days to think for a better caption but couldn't …

Meeting Myself

Re-adopting photograph publishing activity after a break of 5 months …

So After 5 months of break when thought of posting something, the best possible theme which popped out of my head was re-introducing myself.

I am Bhavik Sharma and I am practicing photography as a hobby since Feb 2012. This gap of 4-5 months gave me a opportunity to retrospect and I realized how much I have learned.

Talking about the pic … It is a self-photo-shoot … Yes it is me in the pic … I tried convincing my mom to just click while I pose but she brutally refused as I tend to scold her a lot when she tries the job of my assistant in any photography project …

So I adjusted the camera myself by making my position on the wall (The wall is filled with ball pen marks now :D ) … But finally I was proud of the result and it feels great to do everything by myself :)

Talking about the line written … I am not a big supporter of writing things in a picture … but wanted to write something with the expressions … The line … which is original by the way means … “I longed to meet myself for the complete lifetime … couldn’t understand that all I had to do is close my eyes”

The Goa Chapter : Shore Ahead

Did learn from a video that playing with different color bars in a black&white pic will have its own effects. By “playing with color bars” I mean increasing/decreasing a particular color in the pic using a photo editing software.

Suppose I have a pic wherein some part of the pic has trees which have green as the prominent color. Now I turn this pic into black&white and on this black&white pic I increase the green color content. This will brighten up the parts wherein green was originally present.

Tried this on a pic I captured in Goa. Though this experiment is not absolutely exhibiting the concept explained above, thought of publishing it as the first try. The result is the following
